Soft Product Design: Sustainable Footwear

The objective of this project was to design a pair of sneakers with a sustainable approach. Students were asked to explore the sustainable material of eco felt, and create an upper design to attach to an existing outsole. The pair of sneakers was meant to deliver  wearability, fit, and aesthetics. In addition, students were to continue building upon their branding skills and design a brand for their pair of sneakers.

______

With this project, students were meant to understand the relationship between product function and the human body (foot), explore the property of a soft material (eco felt), explore the possibility of creating 2D patterns and transforming it to 3D applications, and develop skills in digital development and fabrication, along with soft production prototyping and production.

The Sharp 20’s by Streetwear make use of pointed triangular forms, taken from inspiration of cantilevers and sharp edges often found in architecture. The sharp forms are found in the tongue and heel counter of the shoe. The orange thread used to stitch the shoes also add a bold touch of color. These pairs of sneakers are perfect to wear out in the city to highlight your perfect street wear style
